What’s the origin of focaccia?

This simple recipe has been part of the Italian baking tradition since Ancient Rome, where they would eat them at wedding banquets and offer them as a gift to the gods. The word “focaccia” is derived from Latin “focus”, meaning hearth or fireplace where the bread was baked.
